 ホノルル市議のハリモト議員が、来年7月1日(火)より施行が予定されているオアフ島でのレジ袋禁止案に対する改正案を提出。レジ袋禁止案の施行が予定より遅れる可能性が浮上している。 ハリモト議員が提出した改正案では、プラスチック製のレジ袋の使用のほか、自然界の微生物によって、最終的には水と二酸化 炭素に分解されるとされる生物分解性プラスチック製のレジ袋の使用も禁止することを求めており、小売店などがレジ袋禁止法案の改正案に対する準備等を行うため、同法の施行を2016年1月1日(月)まで延期することを提案している。

 オアフ島のモクレレ小学校に在籍している小学3年生のチャールズ・シーグル君が、グーグル社が小中高生を対象に実施しているロゴ・デザイン・コンテスト「Doodle 4 Google」の最終候補者の一人である事が明らかになった。 グーグル社のロゴ・デザイン・コンテストでは、5月9日(金)まで一般からの投票を受け付けており、5月21日(水)に最終結果の発表が行われる。 シーグル君のデザイン「My Time Machine」では、タイムマシンを利用して癌を治療したり、戦争を撲滅したり、自然災害を防いだりすることができる様子などが表現されており、見事チャンピオンに選出されれば、6月9日(月)に、グーグルのサイトにシーグル君のデザインが表示されることとなる。 グーグル社が実施しているロゴ・デザイン・コンテストは、全国から多くの児童が参加するコンテストとして知られており、優勝者には3万ドルの奨学金が、また優勝者が在学している学校には、テクノロジー助成金として5万ドルが贈呈される。
