州当局がカカアコ地区の遊園地建設を承認
ハワイ州コミュニティ開発局は昨日、オアフ島カカアコ地区で建設計画が浮上していた小規模遊園地の建設を承認した。遊園地は早ければ今夏にも開業予定となっている。 今回承認されたのは、アラモアナ通りとアフイ通りの角にある約3エーカーの空き地を利用し、ゴーカートレースやスケート、ロック・クライミングなどが楽しめる施設を有する遊園地を建設するというもので、現在、遊園地の建設を予定している会社側と土地の所有者であるカメハメハ・スクール間で土地のリース契約に関する話し合いが進められている。

サム・チョイが今月末でクローズ
1997年よりオアフ島のニミッツ・ハイウェイ沿いで営業を続けている人気レストランの「サム・チョイ・ブレックファスト・ランチ&クラブ・レストラン」が、31日の営業を最後に15年の歴史に幕を下ろすことが明らかになった。 同レストランのオーナーのひとりであるシェフのサム・チョイ氏は「経済状態が低迷していた時期も含め、無事に15年間も営業を続ける事ができたほか、ローカルはもちろん、数多くの旅行者にも支持され、長年にわたってご愛顧いただいたことにスタッフ一同とても感謝しています」と語った。 レストランの関係者は閉店の理由について「賃貸契約の更新を行わない事を決定したため」とのみ発表している。なお、約50名の従業員は、同店の共同経営者であるジェームス・H・Q・リー氏がオーナーを務めるアロハ・ビール社へ雇用申し込みができる。 サム・チョイ・ブレックファスト・ランチ&クラブ・レストランでは、今月最後の週、長年のサポートに対する感謝の意を込めたチャリティ・ディナーを開催。イベント期間中の売り上げの25%を州内のチャリティ団体などに寄付するとしている。
