モロカイ島で大規模な停電

 マウイ電気局は昨日、モロカイ島全域で大規模な停電が発生したと発表した。なお、停電の原因は不明で、今後詳しい原因調査等が実施される。 当局は、停電は昨日の午前9時40分ごろ発生し、島内約3,200の世帯が数時間にわたって停電による影響を受けたとしたとして、島内住民に対して謝罪を行った。 なお、昨日の午後12時37分には島内全域での電力供給が復旧している。

 社会保険当局は昨日、昨年ハワイでもっとも人気のあったベイビー・ネームを発表した。 昨年ハワイで生まれたベイビーの名前でもっとも多かったのは、男の子が「イーサン」、女の子が「ソフィア」で、2位以下にランクインした名前は、男の子が「ノア」、「メイソン」、「イライジャ」、「ローガン」、女の子では「エマ」、「イザベラ」、「アヴァ」、「ミア」だった。なおアメリカ国内でもっとも人気のあった名前は、男の子が「ジェイコブ」、女の子が「ソフィア」となっている。

 ホノルル市のカーク・コールドウェル市長とホノルル高速輸送システム局(HART)のダン・グラウブカスCEOは昨日、ホノルル市で建設計画が進められている鉄道の駅舎のデザインを行うアーティストを募集すると発表した。 当局によると、今回募集するのは21の駅舎とワイパフ地区に設置予定の指令センターのデザインを行うアーティストで、駅舎の床や壁、彫刻など、多岐にわたった範囲のデザインが行え、ハワイの歴史や文化に精通した人物が望ましいとしている。 今回発表された駅舎のデザインプロジェクトの予算は500万ドルで、デザイン担当者の募集は6月20日まで行われる。
