動物園にナマケモノのカップルが誕生

 オアフ島ワイキキのホノルル動物園に、ペルーから4歳の雌のナマケモノ「ハリエット」が到着。ホノルル動物園で長年にわたって飼育されている雄のナマケモノ「クアンドー」とのカップリングが行われた。  ホノルル動物園関係者は「長い期間にわたってクアンドーのパートナーを探していましたが、やっと彼のガールフレンドを迎え入れることが出来ました」と語っている。 なお、ナマケモノはお互いの存在を確認し受け入れるまでに時間がかかるため、ハリエットとクアンドーが本当のカップルとなるには、まだまだ時間がかかるとみられている。

運転免許取得試験の多言語化がスタート

 ハワイ州運輸局は14日(金)、州内で実施される自動車免許取得の筆記試験を多言語化すると発表。英語以外の言語での筆記試験受験が3月17日より可能となる。 今回当局では、英語のほかに中国語、日本語、韓国語、ベトナム語、トンガ語、サモア語、タガログ語、イロカノ語、ハワイ語、スペイン語、チューク語、マーシャル語の計13語での筆記試験を導入。ホノルル市、マウイ郡、ハワイ郡、カウアイ郡で、多言語での筆記試験が開始される。
