ハワイ州観光局が発表した最新の調査結果で、今年第一四半期にハワイ州を訪れた旅行者の数が前年比7%以上と順調な伸びを示している事が明らかになった。 地域別の訪問者数では、アメリカ西海岸からの訪問者数が前年比10%増、日本からの訪問者数が5%増で、アメリカ西海岸からの訪問者数の増加が顕著となっている。 なお、訪問者が滞在中に州内で消費した金額の総額は約39億ドルで、前年同時期比7.6%増だった。

ホノルル空港の出発ロビーで改修工事を実施
ハワイ州当局は、オアフ島のホノルル空港内の出発ロビーの改修工事を行うと発表した。当局では今回の改修工事によって、シロアリ被害も出ている木製カウンターなどが一掃されるほか、航空会社でのチェックイン作業や荷物の預け入れ作業などがよりスムーズになるとしている。 なお、ユナイテッド航空などが使用しているロビー8はすでに改修工事が終了しており、青いガラスを使用した海や波をイメージしたデザインのロビーが完成しているほか、熱帯雨林をモチーフにしたロビーや、白や赤のパネルで溶岩と火山をデザインしたロビーなども登場する予定となっている。
