 ホノルル出身のマット・サイダーハウド海軍大尉が、米海軍所属のアクロバット飛行隊「ブルーエンジェルス(通称ブルーズ)」の新パイロットとして選出された。 サイダーハウド海軍大尉は現在、テキサス州にあるキングスビル海軍航空基地に所属している。 ブルーエンジェルスの新パイロットの選出を担当した関係者は「ブルーエンジェルスのパイロットは、世界中で活躍している540万人以上いる海軍軍人と海兵隊員の代表ともいえる役割を担うため、無事にもっともふさわしい新パイロットを選出できて安堵しています」と語っている。 サイダーハウド海軍大尉は今後ブルーエンジェルスのパイロットとして活躍予定で、大尉のアクロバット飛行は、来年10月にヒッカム空軍基地で開催予定の航空ショーで楽しむことができる。

郵送による不在者投票がスタート

 8月9日(土)に行われる予備選挙を前に、有権者の一部が郵送による不在者投票をスタートしている。 当局は、すでに不在者投票を希望している有権者98,000人に対し必要書類が送付され、昨日の午後の時点で11,000人の有権者が郵送による投票を行ったとしている。 なお、来週月曜からは、ホノルル市とカポレイ市の2箇所に臨時の投票所を設けられ、8月9日(日)の投票日前に投票を希望する有権者の期日全投票の受付もスタートする。
