 米国立公園局は、2013年にハワイ州内にある国立公園に入園した訪問者の数が490万人で、2012年の510万人と比較して、約20万人減だったと発表した。なお、訪問者数が減少した原因は、米議会で暫定予算が成立しないまま新会計年度に突入し、政府機関の一部が閉鎖したためとみられている。 ハワイ州内でもっとも訪問者数が多かったのは、180万人が訪れたオアフ島の真珠湾にあるアリゾナ記念館で、次いで160万人が訪れたハワイ島のハワイ火山国立公園となっている。

 オアフ島ワイキキのホノルル動物園で飼育されていた雌のカバ「ロージー」が、25年の生涯に幕を閉じた。 市当局によると、ロージーは金曜日の午前中に飼育舎内で死亡しているところを係員によって発見されており、今後、ロージーの死亡原因の究明が行われる見込みとなっている。
