　ハワイ州のニール・アバクロンビー知事は昨日、道路上での安全性向上を目的とした新法案2案を承認した。　今回承認された新法案では、大人や子どもの区別なく、後部座席でのシートベルトの着用が完全義務化されたほか、運転中の携帯電話などの電子通信端末の使用が禁止されており、違反者には、違反初回であれば罰金$100～$200が科せられる。　なお、運転中の電子通信端末の禁止に関する法案は、今回の州法が承認されるまでは各都市や郡の法律に則って取締りが行われていたものの、今後は州法が定めた内容で取締りが行われるほか、18歳以下のドライバーが運転する際には、電子端末機器に手を触れないハンズフリー装置の使用も禁止されており、若年ドライバーの運転中の通信機器の使用が全面的に制限されている。
