　オアフ島カハラモール内にある全米最大の書店チェーンであるバーンズ・ノーブルが閉店予定であることが明らかになった。　バーンズ&ノーブルのカハラ店関係者は、同店の正式な閉店時期に関しては発表していないものの、閉店することは決定していると話したほか、不動産関係者は、バーンズ&ノーブルとカハラモール間のリース契約は来年の1月に切れることになっており、閉店はその前になるだろうとしている。　同店の閉店の理由として関係者は、インターネットの普及によって多くの人々が電子書籍を利用するようになっており、書籍の販売数が激減しているためで、バーンズ&ノーブルでも、今後10年間で現在の689ある店舗数を450～500まで縮小するとしている。　なお、バーンズ&ノーブルのカハラ店閉店によって、ハワイ州内では、オアフ島のアラモアナセンター店とマウイ島のラハイナ・キャナリー・モール店のみが存続することとなる。

　今年6月に開業予定となっているハワイ国立公園内のボルケーノ・ハウス・ホテルのレストラン「ボルケーノ・ハウス・レストラン」では、レストランの開業を前に新しい店名を募集している。 　ボルケーノ・ハウス・ホテルを運営しているアクア・ホスピタリティ社のエリザベス・チャーチル氏は「数百万ドルを投じて再オープンした同ホテル内にあるレストランの開業は、ホテルにとっても目玉イベントのひとつです。今回、市民の皆さんに新レストランの名前を募集する機会を提供でき、非常に喜ばしく思っています」と語っている。　なお、レストランの新しい名前は5月15日まで募集され、応募者はオンラインでの応募が可能となっている。

　ハワイの大手航空会社ハワイアン航空は、来年4月より就航を予定しているホノルル＝北京便の運行に関し、米運輸局より認可を受けることができたと発表した。ハワイアン航空では今後、中国政府からの新定期便就航許可が得られれば、ホノルル＝北京間の新定期便の就航が正式に決定するとしている。　ハワイアン航空では来年4月のホノルル＝北京便の前に、6月25日よりホノルル＝仙台便、そして7月9日からはホノルル＝台北便の就航を決定しており、ホノルル＝北京間の定期便の就航が正式に決定すれば、今年から来年にかけて新たに3つの国際線ルートを開港することとなる。
