 オアフ島カハラモール内にある全米最大の書店チェーンであるバーンズ・ノーブルが閉店予定であることが明らかになった。 バーンズ&ノーブルのカハラ店関係者は、同店の正式な閉店時期に関しては発表していないものの、閉店することは決定していると話したほか、不動産関係者は、バーンズ&ノーブルとカハラモール間のリース契約は来年の1月に切れることになっており、閉店はその前になるだろうとしている。 同店の閉店の理由として関係者は、インターネットの普及によって多くの人々が電子書籍を利用するようになっており、書籍の販売数が激減しているためで、バーンズ&ノーブルでも、今後10年間で現在の689ある店舗数を450~500まで縮小するとしている。 なお、バーンズ&ノーブルのカハラ店閉店によって、ハワイ州内では、オアフ島のアラモアナセンター店とマウイ島のラハイナ・キャナリー・モール店のみが存続することとなる。
