 オアフ島ダウンタウンにあるイオラニ宮殿で昨日、今年2月にダメージを受けた宮殿の窓ガラスの修復資金を集める目的で、参加無料のチャリティコンサートが開催され、数百人の市民が宮殿を訪れた。 イベントに参加したミュージシャンのひとりは「イオラニ宮殿は皆の憩いの場所であり、皆でこの場所を大切にする気持ちを感じることは大切なことです」と語っている。 イオラニ宮殿では今年2月、2名の容疑者がイオラニ宮殿の入り口にあるドアを蹴破って宮殿内に侵入し、ドアにはめ込まれている貴重なガラスが破損されるという事件が発生。窓ガラスは宮殿建設時からの貴重なもので、今後、専門の業者による取替え作業が行われる予定となっている。

 カウアイ郡消防局は、カウアイ島のカララウトレイルで昨日、トレイルにある小川の水位が上昇したため、約70名のハイカーが立ち往生していると発表した。 郡消防局は、昨日の日没までに24名が救出されたものの、残りのハイカーは2名のレスキュー隊員と共に現場で一晩を過ごし、今日の午前6時から残りのハイカーの救出作業が行われているとしている。 今回、ハイカーが立ち往生したトレイルは、カウアイ島のハナカピアイ滝付近で、現場は集中豪雨に遭った際には小川が増水する可能性が高い場所として知られている。
