 ハワイのお正月の食卓に欠かせない食材の一つとされるマグロの価格が、需要増で増加する見通しとなっている。 ユナイテッド・フィッシング・エージェンシーのスポークスマンは「マグロの供給量が例年に比べて減少しているということはありませんが、今年はマグロの需要が増加しており、結果としてマグロの小売価格が値上がりすることになっています」と語った。 オアフ島のケエアウモク通りにある鮮魚店では、中レベルのマグロの販売価格は1ポンドあたり約$30で、より質の高いマグロは1ポンドあたり$40~$50となっている。

道路陥没で車両が転落

 悪天候が続いたハワイ島のパウウイロ地区で昨日、道路が陥没し、走行していた車両1台が転落する事故が発生した。 当局によると、豪雨によりポハケア・マウカ・ロードの一部が陥没し、トラックを運転していた女性が車ごと穴に転落したとしている。当局では現在、道路の陥没箇所の修復作業を急ピッチで行っている。 トラックを運転していたベルマ・デルーズさんは「道路で曲がったとたんに車が立ち往生し、瞬く間に穴に転落しましたが、なんとか窓から這い出て助かりました」と語り、転落によって肋骨が負傷するなどしたものの、助かっただけで感謝ですとしている。
