オバマ大統領のハワイ休暇が終了

 先月末からクリスマス休暇でハワイに滞在していたオバマ米大統領が昨日、17日間のハワイ休暇を終えてオアフ島のヒッカム空軍基地より政府専用機でワシントンDCへの帰路についた。 なお、昨日は大統領と長女マリアさん、次女サーシャさんの3名だけが政府専用機に搭乗しており、1月17日に50歳の誕生日を迎えるミシェル婦人は友人と誕生日を祝うため引き続きハワイに滞在している。 オバマ米大統領はハワイ休暇中、ゴルフやハイキング、ハナウマ湾でのシュノーケリングを行ったりしたほか、ハワイ大学のスタンシェリフセンターでバスケットボールの試合を観戦するなど、ハワイでの時間を楽しんだ。

 2日(水)夜半から3日(木)の深夜にかけ、強風と雨による悪天候に見舞われたオアフ島では、島内各地で地すべりや落石などの被害が続出した。なお、オアフ島での天候は週末にかけて回復するとみられている。 オアフ島のカピオラニ通り沿いのアパートでは、強風で建物の屋根の一部が吹き飛ばされる事故が発生し、ホノルル消防局が出動したほか、パリハイウェイでは地すべりによってハイウェイが一時的に閉鎖となり、昨日の午後2時まで道路上の土砂の除去作業が行われた。また、島西部のファーリントンハイウェイでは落石事故が、そしてクニア通りでは強風によって道路沿いの電柱がなぎ倒される事故も発生している。 参考:KITV4

 米本土生まれのファストフードチェーン店として知られるジャック・イン・ザ・ボックスが、オアフ島最大のショッピング施設であるアラモアナセンター内に新店舗をオープンする予定であることが明らかになった。 今年6月のオープンが予定されている新店舗は、センターのグラウンドレベル、以前ファストフードチェーン店である「アービーズ・レストラン」が入店していたスペースにオープンする見込みで、20~25名の新規雇用が生まれると試算されている。 ジャック・イン・ザ・ボックスは、オアフ島に22店舗、ハワイ島に2店舗、マウイ島に3店舗を展開しており、今回のアラモアナセンター店は州内28店舗目となる。
