 2014年最初のハワイ州生まれのベビーが、ハワイ島のノース・ハワイ・コミュニティ病院で誕生した男児であることが明らかになった。 1月1日(水)午前12時47分に誕生したのは、体重5ポンド5オンスの男の子で、プランティソン君と命名された。また、オアフ島では、元旦の午前1時3分に体重8ポンド6オンスのノア君が誕生しており、ハワイ島、オアフ島ともに、2014年生まれは男の子となった。

大晦日の消防局の出動件数が減少

 爆竹で賑やかに大晦日と新年が祝われたオアフ島では、大晦日から新年にかけての消防局の出動件数が、前年に比べて減少していたことが明らかになった。 ホノルル消防局では、大晦日から新年にかけての通報件数は、昨年の300件より20件ほど少ない284件で、通報件数の3分の1が花火関連の通報だったとしている。 なお、花火の煙による呼吸困難や花火による怪我による事故関連での救急隊への出動要請も昨年より約20件減だったことも同時に発表されている。
